KUALA LUMPUR: Over 15,000 fans flooded the Stadium Merdeka, Saturdau night to witness the Oscar-winning Indian composer AR Rahman’s much anticipated concert, “Infinite Love Live In Concert”.
According to Bernama, the three-and-a-half-hour concert saw Rahman’s hugely diverse body of work, which included a mix of beloved classic numbers and recent hits in both Hindi and Tamil, as well as a ‘Qawwalli’ segment with Sufi devotional music and an electronic dance music section.
The maestro also entertained his fans with his numbers from the soon-to-be-released Tamil 3D film, Kochadaiyaan, directed by Soundarya R. Ashwin, the daughter of Tamil film superstar Rajnikanth.
Kochadaiyaan is due to be released in cinemas next month.
The music composer said he considered Malaysia as one of his most extraordinary fan bases and aimed to give them an unforgettable time at his concert.
Rahman who last performed in Kuala Lumpur in 2003, said he was very excited to present his new repertoire of numbers to his fans here.
His big break came in 1992 when film director Mani Ratnam offered him the job of composing the soundtrack for his film, Roja. Rahman's innovative compositions for the film won both critical acclaim and commercial success. Since then, he has gone on to compose countless soundtracks for many Indian films.
Renowned worldwide for his innovative compositions, Rahman has won two Academy Awards (for his work on Slumdog Millionaire), two Grammy Awards, a Bafta award and a Golden Globe award, in addition to the numerous awards and nominations he has to his name in India.
In his Oscar-acceptance speech, Rahman said: "I want to tell something in Tamil which I normally say after every award, which is, 'Ella puhazhum iraivanukke' (All praise goes to God)."
Meanwhile, fans filled the social media with photos of their favourite star in action on stage.
