MADRID garage rock quartet Hinds has been gaining a following with tracks of energetic, all-female pop, and the foursome now has a debut album on the way.
Who?
You may know Ana Perrote, Carlotta Cosials, Ade Martin and Amber Grimbergen under the group's previous name, Deers -- it was changed to Hinds earlier this year.
The act initially began as a duo with just Perrote and Cosials, later adding Martín on bass and Holland-born Grimbergen on drums.
After releasing a few singles, the group embarked on their first world tour this year and started work on a debut album in April.
Why the buzz?
Hinds' quirky pop runs the gamut from Ronettes to psychedelia to what they refer to as "Black Lips by way of Phil Spector" in the case of their latest single, the Sangria-fueled (says the band) and lyric-focused garage/surf rock track "Chili Town."
Stereofox praises the band's "lo-fi yet accessible slant of indie-rock/garage" and "signature organic, raw style," while Pigeons and Planes says that "Chili Town" "channels Mediterranean sun and sensibly playful lyrics," adding "Humorous couplets match matter-of-fact statements; cigar-stealing and flirtatious encounters unfold, the musicians always in control."
What to listen to?
Released while the act was still a duo, 2014's "Demo" features the tracks "Bamboo" and "Trippy Gum" and earned them many fans.
Those two tracks can be found on SoundCloud along with two tracks from the later release "Barn" as well as "Chili Town," which will be found on their debut album -- release date TBA, but coming from Lucky Number in Europe and Mom+Pop in the US.
Where to see?
The quartet will perform in the UK, France, Germany and Spain in August and early September and embark on a North American tour in the fall, beginning in Albuquerque on September 29 and ending in Allston, Massachusetts on October 28, including shows with Ariel Pink, Glass Animals and the Black Lips along the way.
They'll be back in Europe in late October for shows in Paris and Reykjavik.
