Now, all Disney lovers can heave a sigh of relief to know that the live-action remake of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ was given the green light to be screened in Malaysia.
According to Communication and Multimedia, Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak the snipping power that constitutes censorship in this country is under the purview of the Censorship Board, a board under the Home Affairs Ministry.
Less than 24 hours after the move to ban its screening in Malaysia, the Censorship Board has given the go-ahead for its release in Malaysia -- with minimal editing of the scene --which was deemed sensitive for local audiences.
Salleh said the issue of the postponement was not under the purview of his Ministry.

“Censorship is under the Home Affairs Ministry, it is best to seek answers from them. It is not under the jurisdiction of Perbadanan Kemajuan Filem Nasional Malaysia (FINAS) or my Ministry,” said Salleh during a press conference after the launch of portal, sebenarnya.my
Censorship Board chairman, Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Hamid in an interview with The Star Online confirmed that the Disney film had received the approval for screening under the P13 classification.
Abdul Halim said that each films that had been given the approval for screening, date and place of screening is no longer under the jurisdiction of the Censorship Board but its distributor or cinema operators.
A quick check with TGV Cinemas and Golden Screen Cinemas revealed that no announcements over the new screening dates were made.
Yesterday, Astro AWANI reported the removal of the movie listings from major cinemas following an internal review of its distributor over an alleged gay scene. The film was supposed to be released in Malaysia tomorrow.
The move caused a furore of sorts among disappointed netizens who claimed that there had been several scenes that were deemed insensitive.
