The National Film Development Corporation (Finas) is conducting an investigation into the sale of pirated local films on e-commerce platforms.
Finas Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad Idham Nadzri said his team will focus on e-commerce as well as those who sell pirated films on the platform.
He explained that his party was disappointed with the irresponsible actions of those involved who sold pirated films digitally.
"We will investigate two parties, namely e-commerce and those who sell the films.
"Our investigation is to determine whether they own a distribution license and whether they have obtained permission from the producers to sell the films.
"Based on the reports we received, they did not get permission from the producers to sell the films," he told Astro AWANI.
Commenting further, Ahmad Idham said his party will obtain information from the sellers on whether they were aware that the products sold were genuine or not.
Apart from that, he also stressed that Finas felt challenged when there were those who dared to sell pirated films openly.
"We want to know whether those in the e-commerce platform are aware or otherwise, that half of the products sold are pirated products," he added.
Several local films including 'Keluarga Iskandar The Movie' and 'Ada Apa Dengan Dosa' were found to have been sold Shopee without the producer’s permission.
Astro AWANI is currently getting comments from Shopee on the matter.
