The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) aims to produce more nationalistic films, which among other things, would be able to cultivate the spirit of patriotism and love for the country.
Its director-general Datuk Kamil Othman said he hoped the films were also featured at the international stage, to showcase the capabilities of local film producers to the world.
"Many people are questioning our (Finas) desire to bring nationalistic films to the international stage, which are of 'Oscar'-level. However, we are confident it can be ahcieved," he said during a seminar and forum on Malaysian films in the context of today's community, at the Content Malaysia Pitching Centre Auditorium here, Saturday.
He said Finas will also help provide funds to those who produce a quality script to be filmed.
Among the local film producers present were Bernard Chauly, Sandosh Kesavan, Wong Tuck Cheong and Tan Chui Mui.
The objective of the forum was to assess the roles and contributions of filmmakers in the production of the nationalistic films, as well as providing more encouragement to the roles and contributions played by all races in developing patriotic films.
