The Malaysia National Film Corporation (Finas) will provide allocation for the initial stages of production to help film producers.

Finas director-general Datuk Kamil Othman said the allocation would only be given for the initial stages such as for research work and script-writing.

"The amount of allocation would depend on the research work needed and subsequent stages such as production costs for making the film which will be borne by the producer.

"There are also conditions which have to be met, for instance the film must have a Malaysian theme such as history or classical works.

"For instance, if a film producer wants to make a film about Tok Janggut in Kelantan... Finas can provide the funds for their research in script-writing," he told Bernama at the Kompleks Studio Merdeka here Thursday.

Kamil added that film producers should not just make films but also documentaries, short films for Youtube or animation films.

"Finas has also provided funds of more than RM50 million for 68 works since October 2015," he said.
