The Garden of Evening Mists (TGOEM), a film adaption of the critically acclaimed novel of the same name by Malaysian Tan Twan Eng, was honoured with 9 nominations at the upcoming 56th Golden Horse Awards which was announced today in Taipei. TGOEM is presented by Astro Shaw and HBO Asia with support from the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) in association with CJ Entertainment.

Bhd.,HBO Asia), Best Director (Tom LIN Shu-yu), Best Leading Actress (LEE Sinje), Best Adapted Screenplay (Richard SMITH), Best Cinematography (Kartik VIJAY), Best Art Direction (Penny TSAI Pei-ling, LUM Heng-soon, CHEN Hsuan-shao), Best Makeup & Costume Design (Nikki GOOLEY, Biby CHOW, Penny TSAI Pei-ling, Nina EDWARDS), Best Original Film Score (Onn SAN), and Best Film Editing (SOO Mun-thye).
The Golden Horse Awards are among the most prestigious and time-honored film awards in the world of Chinese language cinema. Established in 1962, the awards have given recognition to numerous excellent filmmakers working in Chinese-language cinema. The 56th Golden Horse Awards Ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 23rd, 2019 in Taipei, Taiwan.
TGOEM will have its world premiere at the 24th Busan International Film Festival on the October 4th, 2019 at the Busan Cinema Center Haneulyeon Theater with Tom LIN Shu-yu and LEE Sinje in attendance. This global production is helmed by award-winning Taiwanese director Tom Lin and adapted by Scottish BAFTA-winning screenwriter Richard Smith. It boasts a star-studded international cast including Malaysian actress Sinje Lee (The Eye), Japanese actor Hiroshi Abe (After the Storm), Taiwanese actress Sylvia Chang (Love Education), British actor David Oakes (Cold Skin), Julian Sands (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Scottish actor John Hannah (The Mummy).
Based on the 2012 Man Booker Prize shortlisted novel of the same title by Malaysian Tan Twan Eng, the film tells the story of Teoh Yun Ling who, embittered from atrocities of World War II in Malaya, seeks solace in the rolling hills of Cameron Highlands. There, in her quest to build a garden in homage of her late sister, she embarks on a forbidden love affair with the mysterious gardener, Nakamura Aritomo.
The Garden of Evening Mists Gardens will screen at the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival as a “Gala Presentation” with screenings to take place from 14 to 16 November 2019 and is slated to debut in Malaysian cinemas starting January 2020.
