Variety reports that Lionsgate hopes to place Destin Cretton at the helm of an adaptation of the Jeannette Walls's 2005 novel "The Glass Castle."
Cretton garnered critical acclaim recently with "Short Term 12," a drama set in a foster care facility. The independent film earned awards at South by Southwest (Austin, Texas) and at the Locarno Film Festival (Switzerland) earlier this year. Currently in active talks with Lionsgate to direct "The Glass Castle," Cretton will also contribute to a re-write of the screenplay if an agreement is reached.
Announced last April, the project for a film adaptation of "The Glass Castle" will rely on Jennifer Lawrence in the leading role. The much-solicited actress remains dedicated to the project, in which she will play a young woman who grows up in a highly dysfunctional family and ultimately leaves her parents with her two siblings for a better life.
