A minor reshuffle in the Lionsgate release calendar ensures "Mortdecai" avoids a face-to-face with the Wachowskis' "Jupiter Ascending" and Jeff Bridges' "Seventh Son."
Instead, audiences will be able to see Johnny Depp as art dealer and inadvertent internationally wanted man Charles Mortdecai, with Gwyneth Paltrow as discrete confidante Johanna and Ewan McGregor the inspector on his tail, from January 23 instead of February 6.
That puts "Mortdecai," directed by "Jurassic Park" and "Carlito's Way" screenwriter David Koepp, on the same opening weekend as Jennifer Lopez's more serious "The Boy Next Door."
As a result, Lionsgate's "The Age of Adaline," a Blake Lively and Harrison Ford romance about a woman who cannot grow old, is bumped from January 23 to April 24, where it meets comedy "Rock the Kasbah," starring Bill Murray, Kate Hudson, Zooey Deschanel, Danny McBride, Bruce Willis and Scott Caan.
