‘The Journey’ received an “Outstanding Arts and Entertainment Award” in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) for its highest box office collection of all time.
“We are overwhelmed by how the movie has touched the hearts of so many Malaysians, who have been so generous and supportive of this movie. We dedicate the MBR award to Malaysians for putting ‘The Journey’ as part of history in the local film industry," said producer of ‘The Journey’ and Astro’s Vice President of Chinese Customer Business Choo Chi Han.
Director Chiu Keng Guan, currently in Udine, Italy for the European premiere of ‘The Journey’ in the 16th Far East Film Festival said he is happy to share the movie's message to a wider audience.
“It is truly an honour to showcase our unique Malaysian story to the European film enthusiasts who enjoyed and appreciated ‘The Journey’. I am touched and humbled that the universal values of humanity being told through Malaysians’ perspective is resonating well with global audience. Without recognition from Malaysians, we wouldn’t have come this far," he said.
‘The Journey’, presented by Astro Shaw Sdn Bhd and produced by Woohoo Pictures, set a new box-office record for the highest grossing Malaysian film with a collection of RM17.28 million within 56 days of its theatrical release.
‘The Journey’ was released in Malaysian and Singaporean cinemas on 30th January and 20th March 2014 respectively, and has a planned release in Taiwan in later this year.
