The actor is said to be interested in playing the title role in a biopic focusing on the American president, whose time in office spanned from 1913 to 1921.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, DiCaprio will also be a producer on the project, offering support through his company, Appian Way, in collaboration with Warner Bros.
The film will be based on a biography of the former American president by A. Scott Berg, simply titled "Wilson." The book explores the complex personality of the historical figure, who left an indelible mark on global politics in the early 20th century.
A Democrat, Wilson was instrumental to the 1919 founding of the League of Nations, the precursor to the United Nations, but at the same time, he was a staunch conservative when it came to maintaining racial segregation within the US. During his two terms in the White House, he founded the Federal Reserve System, led the country into World War I in 1917, and represented the US as a major geopolitical power in the post-War conferences.
Currently in the planning stages, "Wilson" is just one of Leonardo DiCaprio's many forthcoming projects. The actor is also planning to take part in the crime thriller "Mean Business on North Ganson Street," the Viking-themed historical fiction "King Herald," and a film on the life of Russian historical figure Rasputin.
