The actress will headline and co-produce an adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's novel, the Hollywood Reporter indicates.
Following her Oscar-winning performance in "12 Years a Slave," Lupita Nyong'o has become one of the most in-demand names in Hollywood.
Just after boarding the next "Star Wars" movie, the actress has agreed to co-produce and star in "Americanah."
The project will reunite the actress with Brad Pitt, whose company Plan B is co-producing.
Adapted from the eponymous novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, "Americanah" is a love story underscored by themes of race, immigration and globalization.
After successfully integrating into US society through her academic career, Ifemelu ultimately returns to her home country.
Since she last saw him 15 years earlier, her first love Obinze, who had hoped to join her in America, has been living a dangerous life in London as an undocumented worker.
The two characters are reunited in their homeland, each transformed by the experience of immigration.
