The MTV Video Music Awards are set to take place on Sunday, and while nominees have been announced and some performers have been revealed, there are no doubt many surprises yet to come.
Pop star Miley Cyrus is set to host the 2015 awards show, having made a splash in 2013 with her racy "Blurred Lines" performance alongside Robin Thicke, and winning the award for Video of the Year for her hit single "Wrecking Ball" a year later. Her plans for this year's event remain up for speculation.
As for nominees, those with multiple nods include Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Ed Sheeran, Beyoncé and Mark Ronson, giving a hint of who we might see gracing the stage. Nominated in the top category of Video of the Year are Beyoncé's "7/11," Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud," Taylor Swift ft. Kendrick Lamar with "Bad Blood," Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars with "Uptown Funk" and Kendrick Lamar with "Alright."
MTV has also revealed some details about who can be expected to perform at the event, with Demi Lovato, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Twenty One Pilots and Tori Kelly all recently announced and joining The Weeknd, who makes his VMA debut.
And, lest a year go by without Kanye West making a major showing at the event, MTV announced this week that the rapper will be honored with the Video Vanguard award in recognition of his lifetime achievements.
At the pre-show, viewers can expect a few musical highlights as well: Nick Jonas will perform his new single "Levels" live for the first time, and Taylor Swift will premiere her "Wildest Dreams" video.
Among MTV's speculations about what the event may bring: Will Taylor Swift invite rapper Kendrick Lamar to share the stage with her if she wins an award? Will Beyoncé have the biggest night in VMA history, surpassing Madonna as the artist with the most wins? And will any burgeoning celebrity couples make their debut on the red carpet?
Answers to those questions will be revealed on Sunday, when the VMAs air live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles starting at 9pm Eastern time. A live stream begins six hours earlier at www.mtv.com/ontv/vma/watch-vma-live-stream.jhtml.
