Starting on June 19 and running until June 30, the Steam Summer Sale proposes broad discounts for the sale period, with further discounts introduced for 8- or 48-hour periods.

That means chart re-entries for wintry action adventure "Skyrim," knowingly anarchic heist simulator "Payday 2," the Eastern European mythos of roleplaying jaunt "The Witcher 2" and last year's weaponized tropical island ramble "Far Cry 3."

Nevertheless, titles like "DayZ," a Steam chart perennial since its December 2013 launch, climed one place thanks to a relatively minor 15% discount -- pennies in comparison to the 75% and 80% cuts applied to other titles.

Likewise, the sophisticated ambitions of murky horror title "The Forest" and Russian off-road vehicle romp "Spintires" stayed within the top ten, no mean feat when the biggest blockbusters of recent years are being made available at hugely reduced prices.

On Desura, a platform that acts as a commercial gateway for many smaller-scale games, "Battle for Presidency" crashes into the top five.

Building on its previous and continuing tenure as a flash-based web game and iOS/Android app, "Battle for Presidency" might not be the most technically accomplished title, but it does offer the chance to pit a selection of modern and historical US leaders against each other, with abilities based on their real-life personas.
