Songstress Sharifah Aini had had lung problems prior to being admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and her interaction with the public may have worsen her condition, said her stepbrother Syed Tahir Syed Jaafar.

The singer, fondly known as Kak Pah, was admitted into the KPJ Damansara Medical Centre on Monday after developing breathing difficulties.

She was diagnosed with a rare condition known as lung fibriosis or interstitial lung disease two years ago.

“Kak Pah is aware of her condition but she still wants to interact with the public. Thus, exposing her lungs to dangerous infections.

“She can get infected by hugging someone who has the flu. That will affect her lungs. As a result, she had been admitted to the hospital the next day.

"Kak Pah is well loved by everyone and I miss her hugs and kisses. She is like a person sleeping now. I wonder when I can hug her again,” said the tearful Syed Tahir.

He also urged the public to stop making speculations and spread untrue rumors about his sister’s condition on social media websites.

“I hope that the caring fans can give Kak Pah the space to recover from her illness. I also urge the public to stop speculating. I was just asked by a friend from Singapore, who had apparently received news, which suggested the worst.”

Meanwhile, respiratory physician consultant Datuk Dr Zainuddin Md Zin said Kak Pah is still in ICU but her condition showed some improvement.
