IT WAS indeed a ‘big’ success for Melissa McCarthy when she successfully contributes to bigger laughter and humour in this comedy spy movie: Spy.
McCarthy plays Agent Susan Cooper, a full-fledged CIA agent or analyst who has never been on the field before.
Deskbound and modest Agent Cooper rises to the occasion after she volunteered to become the unsung hero to her longtime crush and partner, Agent Bradley Fine (played by Jude Law).
Prior to Agent Fine’s assassination, Agent Cooper has always been the undisclosed weapon and the ‘voice’ in Fine’s head as she communicates with him via high-tech surveillance systems and gadgets that gets him to surpass all obstacles including being a target of the enemies.
Another English actor who proves that he is indeed a versatile and a good sport would be Jason Statham as played Agent Richard Ford – another CIA agent who is boastful and always (unconsciously) pushing the limits with his bragging rights.
Agent Ford can’t get over his head that their woman chief, played by Allison Janney hesitantly agreed to have an overweight 40-something inactive agent to avenge for her partner’s death.

And with that Agent Cooper and Agent Ford found themselves reluctantly working together to track down and bring down the sultry beautiful villain, Rayna Boyanov (Rose Byrne) – a snooty, spoiled brat Bulgarian arms dealer.
No doubt the director, Paul Feig has found the magic concoction to produce an impressive comedy complemented with brilliantly-tailored script, suave English Moctors and Melissa McCarthy!
McCarthy shines more than ever in Spy as she makes her debut playing the lead role after she co-starred in a string of hit movies by Paul Feig like Bridesmaid and The Heat.
What seems to be an ode to your normal everyday woman who invisibly wears a cape, Spy is indeed a tease and humour on the typically testosterone-fueled fantasy of spy action movies with a noble message that anyone and anyone can be a hero.
Be prepared to cry your funny tears out!
