Actress Mariani buried next to sister Saloma

The atmosphere at the Jalan Ampang Muslim Cemetery was sombre as the body of Mariani, a veteran local actress, was lowered into the earth this morning.

Mariani, whose real name is Mariam Ismail, was buried at 11.30am next to her younger sister and fellow actress, Puan Sri Saloma and Tan Sri P. Ramlee.

Earlier, the body was prepared for burial at Masjid Al Hidayah in Jalan Sentul at 9am.

The 82-year-old actress breathed her last at 7.32pm last night at her house in Taman Kosmo Jaya, Sentul, surrounded by loved ones.

The news of her death was related to the public by her own daughter, Melissa Saila, via the latter's social media accounts just moments after.

Before this, Mariani had been receiving treatment at medical centres for her ailing health.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak shared his grief on his Twitter over Mariani's death and extended his condolonces to her family last night.
