Dilwale reaches RM64 million mark, Shah Rukh Khan proves he is still the King of Bollywood
The movie marks the return of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as a pair on silver screen after five years.
Clouded by controversies, but being the most anticipated Hindi movie of the year certainly helps 'Dilwale' to conquer box office.
The movie has so far recorded a whopping US$15 million (RM65 million) in India alone, proving the fact that Shah Rukh Khan is still indeed, the King of Bollywood.
Dilwale opened with full force for the first two days, which was last weekend, but the ticket sales dropped during the third and the following days.
But The Times of India reported that the ticket sales started to pick up significantly during Christmas Eve, with a few countries, such as United Kingdom, Australia and Malaysia, recorded the highest sales.
To date, the movie, which marks the return of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol as a pair on silver screen after five years, has reportedly engrossed US$30 million worldwide.
In India, Dilwale is facing a tough clash with Bajirao Mastani while at the same time, going head to head with Star Wars: The Force Awakens internationally.
Critics earlier had predicted Dilwale to have a tough time reaching its expected ticket sales, especially in India, after a few districts ordered to ban the movie from being shown following Shah Rukh's statement last month, criticising the growing intolerance in the country.
