Dwayne Johnson to play Hercules in 2014

Dwayne Johnson, the former wrestler nicknamed "The Rock," will use his impressive physique to star in "Hercules."

The movie about the mythological figure will be directed by Brett Ratner ("Tower Heist"). Paramount Pictures and MGM studios will oversee the project, which will be based on a comic book.

Other mythological figures to recently receive the Hollywood treatment are Leonidas ("300"), Theseus ("Immortals") and Perseus ("Clash of the Titans").

The action film will be released on July 25, 2014 in North American cinemas."Hercules" will go head to head with four blockbusters also set for release in the same month: "The Hobbit: There and Back Again," "Transformers 4," "X-Men: Days of Future Past" and "Maleficent."
