Fans worldwide keep Yasmin Ahmad museum alive
The museum raised a total of almost USD20 thousand from donors as far as Korea, Japan, Cambodia and New Zealand
About a month ago, Yasmin At Kong Heng – the museum commemorating the late award-winning filmmaker Yasmin Ahmad located in Ipoh, Perak — faced the threat of shutting down due to insufficient funds.
This led to a fundraising campaign launched through crowdfunding website Start Some Good.
It was recently announced that the museum has raised a total of US$19,748 (RM83,015) from 132 donors, including contributions from countries such as Korea, Japan, Cambodia and New Zealand too.
The funds that have been collected from the crowdfunding campaign will be used to improve on the exhibits at Yasmin at Kong Heng, as well as go towards permanent installations that bring Yasmin’s work to life.

On top of covering operating costs and extending the museum’s operating hours, the extra funds will also help run future exhibitions and workshops.
The Yasmin Ahmad Society — the late filmmaker’s family members, close friends as well as loyal fans who initiated the fundraising campaign on Start Some Good — are grateful and relieved with the contributions garnered.
For their kind and generous support, donors were given a variety of rewards to choose from, ranging from t-shirts printed with Yasmin’s signature and reproductions of Yasmin’s original movie scripts to Plan B food vouchers and complimentary stays at Sekeping Kong Heng.
