Green Day to release new single

US punk rock band Green Day has hinted at plans to unleash a fresh singe next week, titled "Bang Bang."

The song is set to drop Aug 11, with frontman Billie Joe Armstrong sharing the news via Instagram on Aug 1 along with a picture of the group posing on the pavement and the following message: ''Dear friends! green day is putting out a new single called ''BANG BANG'' August 11. stay tuned for more details.. photo by Frank Maddocks.''

The track unveil follows other teasers by the band, including a video of them recording new music in the studio, earlier this year, and a reveal by long-time producer Rob Cavallo back in April last year who said that the band had been back in the studio and had recorded five tracks (via NME).

"Bang Bang" will mark the the first release from Green Day since the band unveiled a surprise single called 'Xmas Time of the Year', released via the group's Twitter page on Christmas Eve.
