Guillermo del Toro talks 'Pacific Rim 2'

The second installment will start a few years after the first movie and some major characters will be back, the director told Collider.

"It’s a few years after the first one," Del Toro told Collider. "It is the world having been freed of Kaiju, what happens to the world after -- what happens to the Jaeger technology once the Kaiju are not a threat," he adds.

While the return of Charlie Hunnam and Ron Perlman had already been announced, Del Toro has confirmed that Charlie Day and Burn Gorman's characters will also be returning.

"The Kaijus are very different and you’re gonna see a very different type of the robots I think. It’s gonna be quite a different adventure."

"Pacific Rim 2" will be released April 7, 2017 in the US.
