Rizalman for ZALORA sets to sizzle

Lara is a 13-minute film directed and written by couturier Rizalman Ibrahim where he tells a story of a girl’s life after journey thousands of miles away from home - in Istanbul and her much-awaited homecoming to usher in the auspicious celebration.

With talented actors like Fauziah Nawi and Scha Alyahya who is also the current muse for Rizalman, Lara shows the artistic flair of Rizalman not just as a fashion designer but also in film where the beauty of Istanbul got successfully encapsulated and intertwined with subtle presentation of the Rizalman for ZALORA pieces.

According to Giulio Xiloyannis, the Managing Director for ZALORA Malaysia, the whole idea and concept came from Rizalman himself. For ZALORA, though the sales last year was a breakthrough and that they aimed to double the number last year, it is more than just dollar and cents with this year’s campaign.

On the design for Raya this year, every piece in both film and the Rizalman for ZALORA runway in Chin Woo Stadium in Kuala Lumpur last week --- screams the designer’s signature - combo of modern elegance without compromising on the traditional Malay sophistication and decency.

With the classic 1970’s theme, the Rizalman for ZALORA fashion show brings pieces that are majorly form-fitting. There are a series flattering baju kurung that will take its wearer elegantly from day to night, regardless the occasion – formal or casual. Mostly separates and some kaftans, Rizalman weaved the sense of innovation in fabrication like the use of neoprene to create that flair in every silhouette.

With 'the-barely-there' embellishments as well as clean and sleek styling, every model who took the centrestage looked sophisticated and ladylike in form flattering jersey, lace, crepe silk and georgette silk.

Aside from the usual monochromatic and basic hues of green, red and brown, Rizalman has also incorporated fresh breath of pop art, candy colour prints as well as animal prints.

Rizalman lives up to fashion pundits' expectations - by creating impeccable creations that balanced off classic baju kurung with a modern twist of elegance by the smart play of cuts, proportions and fabrics.
