Shila Amzah finally scores at home

It was a win she will never forget.

Shila Amzah raised eyebrows and stole the limelight after she bagged two awards - the Best Pop Song and Best Song for Patah Seribu - at the 19th edition of the Anugerah Industri Muzik at the Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam last night.

Shila Amzah is also the composer and lyricist for the song.

The 22-year-old beat Kuasa Cinta (Best Ethnic Pop Song), Doa (Best Nasyid Song), Idola (Best Rock Song), Aku Maafkan Kamu (Best Hip Hop Song) and Counting Days (Best English Song) for the Best Song award.

“I’ve never won any awards in my home country,” she said during her acceptance speech. “I want to thank AIM, my family, my fans and the love of my life Sharnaaz Ahmad who has been very supportive of my career all this while," Shila Amzah said.

In the best pop song category, she had some tough competition from Jaclyn Victor who was up with two nominations with Sebelah Jiwaku and Jagalah Diri. Other nominees included Harapan (Hyper Act) and Terukir di Bintang (Yuna).

Daughter of singer ND Lala, Shila Amzah made her singing debut at the age of 10 with her first album Terima Kasih Guru.

She was the runner-up for the One in a Million competition in 2008 and was the semi-finalist in Astro Ria's Mania singing competition in May.

Shila Amzah hogged the headlines recently after winning the Asian Wave singing competition in September 2012 and the win last night certainly made 2012 a memorable year.
