Angkatan Wanita Amanah Nasional (AWAN) has urged all local radio stations to stop playing international hit song, "Despacito" over alleged vulgar meanings.
In a statement, AWAN's Arts and Culture chairman Atriza Umar said the song by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee may spread unhealthy culture among the young who listen to it even though they may not understand the meaning of the song.
"I am saddened that songs like this are not properly censored by the relevant ministries," she said.
She called for the song and other songs with vulgar, violent content or unsuitable for Islamic audience to be barred from being aired immediately.
Atriza also called on the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to be stern on the matter.
She welcomed the initiatives of local artistes who sang the song with different lyrics to suit the local culture.
"Hopefully the local artistes can work together to provide a better entertainment with high commercial values. We respect the rights for entertainment, but the lines must be clear so that it does not cause harm," she added.
"Despacito" is now the most streamed track of all time, racking up 4.6 nillion plays in its first six months.
