Whoopi Goldberg to produce new transgender model series

Actress Whoopi Goldberg has been tapped to executive produce a new series about transgender models for Oxygen.

The show, titled "Strut", sees the audience follow a group of models from Slay Model Management -the world's first exclusively transgender modeling agency - as they strive to become household names and simultaneously challenge gender and beauty stereotypes.

Commenting on her involvement Goldberg said the show is "important right now, because for all of the positive advances the community has made and continues to make, transgender is still a hot-button word that gets people hysterical" (via The Hollywood Reporter).

The series, produced by One Hoe Productions, with Goldberg and Tom Leonardis serving as executive producers, is just one of Oxygen's several new unscripted programs debuting this year.
