'Zero Dark Thirty', 'Amour' benefit from Oscar nominations

'Zero Dark Thirty', 'Amour' benefit from Oscar nominations
According to Rentrak, takings for 'Zero Dark Thirty' and 'Amour' in North American cinemas have each increased by 1,000% since their Oscar nominations.
Between January 10, when the nominees were announced, and February 24, when the 85th Oscars ceremony took place, takings for "Zero Dark Thirty" increased by 1,570% in the United States and Canada. Takings for Kathryn Bigelow's film about the manhunt for Bin Laden went from $5.5M before its nomination to over $90M after it.
Michael Haneke's "Amour" also benefited from its nomination. Earnings for the film, which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Picture, increased by 1,250%, from $381,277 to $5.1M.
The Oscars had a positive effect on "Silver Linings Playbook" but to a lesser extent, helping it make 195% more between January 10 and February 24.
Among the other movies nominated for Best Picture, Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" experienced a 39% increase, "Les Misérables" increased by 34%, "The Life of Pi" by 23% and "Lincoln" by 22%.
There was some enthusiasm for winner "Argo," which saw a 17% increase in takings. Takings for "Beasts of the Southern Wild" increased by 11%.
