Be wary when making contributions to flood relief funds - Police

The Terengganu police has advised the public to be wary when making contributions to the various humanitarian funds which are supposedly for flood victims.

Terengganu police chief Datuk Jamshah Mustapa said people who wish to donate should check the legitimacy of the individuals or organisations setting up the funds.

"After floods hit the country we saw collections for flood victims mushrooming, but we don't know if the contributions have reached the victims or not.

"We commend the concern shown for flood victims and efforts to collect funds and contributions, but make sure they are legitimate and that the contributions reach recipients," he told Bernama here today.

He said they have yet to receive reports on the matter, but they will continue to monitor the situation to prevent the public from falling victim to unscrupulous parties.
