Children who are traumatised by floods in Johor and currently taking shelter at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sri Kencana, Simpang Renggam here, are being given psychological support to overcome the trauma.
President of the Kluang branch of National Council of Counseling Teachers Council, Rosli Saidi said the smart support team's session for the children was being conducted with the help of two officers from Kluang District Education Office.
"Among the activities carried out with the children during the session are drawing, ice-breaking and some other fun activities that make them happy.
"Besides killing time, we also want them to be comfortable while staying at the relief centre, and hence, overcome their trauma," he said when met at the relief centre.
Rosli said the session began at 9am and ended at noon daily.
He said the children's trauma could sometimes be identified through their drawings and those who were badly traumatised would be given personal counseling immediately.
The relief centre at SK Seri Kencana is currently sheltering 241 flood evacuees, 59 of whom were children, from Kampung Haji Noor, Kampung Batu 6, Kampung Parit Jepun, Kampung Sungai Rambai, Kampung Paya Palembang, Kampung Sungai Ampangan and Kampung Ulu Benut.
