An elderly trishaw peddler here lost his sole source of income when his trishaw was badly damaged by the flood that hit this district since Dec 24.

Mohamad Hussin, 83, who has been peddling trishaw to earn a living that allowed him to raise his six children over the past 50 years, said his trishaw was swept away by the strong current from the overflowing Kelantan river that submerged the village.

"When the flood inundated my house on Wednesday evening (Dec 24), my wife and I moved into one of my children's house in Wakaf Baharu.

"Before that, I parked the trishaw in front of my house and I never thought that it would be swept away," he told reporters at his home in Jalan Gajah Mati here after receiving house cleaning tools from Orang Kota Baharu Association (POKB) here Sunday.

However, he said as soon as the flood subsided on Dec 30, he found the badly damaged trishaw at the Big Clock Roundabout here, two kilometres away from his house.

Mohamad said as the trishaw was his sole source of income, he would try to repair it, even the cost was said to be between RM500 to RM1,000.

The problem faced by Mohamad, however, captured the attention of POKB information and publicity chief Baharum Abdul Wahab, who announced that the association would bear the cost to repair the trishaw for the senior citizen.
