The Finance Ministry has approved an immediate allocation of RM50 million for the states being ravaged by the worsening floods, Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah said today.
He said the allocation would be channelled to the state development office in the states and distributed immediately.
"The Finance Ministry will also facilitate the immediate purchase of equipment to ensure that aid reaches the people in the affected areas," he said in a statement.
Ahmad Husni said it was hoped that the immediate allocation and the facility to purchase equipment would ease the burden faced by the people.
"The Finance Ministry will monitor developments regularly and will take the appropriate measures to facilitate aid for the people," he said.
The floods showed no signs of letting up, displacing 90,250 people as of this morning in Kelantan, Pahang, Terengganu, Perak and Perlis in what is seen as the biggest number of flood evacuees in the nation's history.
