The Fire and Rescue Department has advised the people against disseminating over the social media false information on the floods now ravaging the country.
Its director-general, Datuk Wan Mohd Nor Ibrahim, said much of the news that had gone viral on the social media was inaccurate.
"Do not create unrest and an alarming situation. Do not trigger any unnecessary situation when everything is under control," he told reporters after a working visit to the Lenggong Fire and Rescue Station here last night.
Wan Mohd Nor said the floods had not affected the whole country and, as such, the department could mobilise its assets and personnel where there was the most need, such as Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.
He said all the 13,000 fire and rescue personnel were ready to be mobilised anywhere round the clock.
The annual leave of the personnel serving in the flood-hit states had been frozen, he added.
Up to this morning, more than 90,000 people had been evacuated from their flooded homes in five states, namely Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perlis and Perak.
