Cabinet ministers who are on vacation overseas have been ordered to return home to mount operations to assist flood victims.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the directive was issued this morning and the ministers concerned were now making preparations to return to Malaysia.
"This decision was made so that they could work to assist in the flood rescue and relief operations," he told a news conference after visiting the flood relief centre at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Padang Tengku, here, today.
Earlier, Najib who visited some flood-hit areas in Pahang, also dropped by at the relief centre in Sekolah Kebangsaan Clifford.
Meanwhile, Najib said the flood situation was improving with the flood relief centres in Kedah already closed, thus enabling the assets, and rescue workers and security forces on duty in Kedah to be mobilised to the states still hit by floods.
On his visit, he said he was satisfied with the good running of the flood relief centres, with enough food and other forms of assistance given to the victims.
"I thank all those who assist in the flood rescue and relief operations," he said.
