More than 1,200 infectious diseases detected in Pahang in 6 days

A total 1,220 cases of flood related infectious such as eye and skin diseases were detected in Pahang in six days until yesterday.
Pahang Health director Dr Zainal Ariffin Omar said the findings were made during health checks on 4,073 flood victims.
"Of the total, only 28 infectious diseases are listed under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988," he said in a statement Monday.
Two cases of food poisoning were reported at two flood relief centres, namely at Wisma Belia here involving 14 people and at Pahang Sport Complex involving 13 cases.
Of the 4,073 flood victims examined, 1,645 non-infectious diseases such as knee problems, diabetes and asthma were also detected, other than 57 injuries and 614 other cases.
Zainal said to boost awareness among the flood victims of water-borne diseases, several health education activities had been conducted in flood areas and relief centres.
A total 9,945 such activities were carried out, to date, covering talks, group discussions, demonstrations, public announcements, radio announcements and gotong-royong.
In addition, 6,626 flood-related health education materials such as pamphlets, posters, buntings and banners had been distributed and put up.
