MyKad replacement: Evacuation centres to collect data of flood victims
AHMAD ZAHID: The move is to ease the process of preparing the replacement of victims' MyKad that were lost or damaged by floods.
The Home Ministry has asked all evacuation centres in flood-ravaged states to collect personal data of flood victims to be handed over to the National Registration Department (NRD).
Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said it was to ease the process of preparing the replacement of their identity cards (MyKad) that were lost or damaged by floods.
"This will not only be done in Perak, but also in all areas affected by floods. Victims whose identity cards were lost or damaged are required to come to the evacuation centres.
"Once ready, we also hope that the NRD officials, especially of the mobile unit, can come to the affected areas to hand over the replacement cards to the victims," he told reporters after visiting the evacuation centre at SK Sayong here Saturday.
During his visit, Ahmad Zahid also handed over the replacement Mykad for the first 40 evacuees housed at SK Sayong.
He also brought buns made by Kajang Prison and Tapah Prison inmates to be distributed to all the flood victims.
Meanwhile, when asked about the government's action in addressing the issue of teenagers who tried to join the so-call Islamic State (IS) militant group in Syria, he said, the ministry was constantly monitoring the issue on social media websites.
"We will combat this crime and will not compromise with activities like this," he added.
On Friday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar reported that two teenagers, a male and female, were arrested on suspicion of trying to join the IS, in separate operations at the KL International Airport on Dec 24 and Dec 28.
