The normally quiet grounds of Sekolah Kebangsaan RKT Seberang Tayor near Air Putih here was abuzz today when the Prime Minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor visited the schools to present post-flood donations.
Rosmah, who is President of the Welfare Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti), arrived at 11.40am and was welcomed by Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman and wife Toh Puan Halina Zakaria as well as state executive councillors and their wives.
Also in the Bakti delegation was wife of Deputy Prime Minister Puan Seri Datin Noorainee Abdul Rahman, who is also Bakti deputy president, and Tengku Puan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, who is also Pahang Girl Guides Association president.
Rosmah and her delegation also visited an exhibition gallery on the 2014 floods and was given a briefing on the disaster by Kemaman District Officer Datuk Mustafar Khalid.
Rosmah, who is also Girl Guides Association of Malaysia (PPPM) president, also presented aid contributions including stationery and school uniforms to 30 students, 20 teachers and three staff members of the school.
PPPM had previously presented donations worth RM1.33 million to 69 schools affected by floods in Terengganu, benefiting 29,257 primary and secondary children, 3,080 teachers and 541 support staff.
During the visit to Kemaman today, Bakti also presented donations of t-shirts, sarongs, batik cloth, prayer mats, prayer clothing and towels, worth RM190,000 to 2,000 families affected by the floods in the district.
After an hour spent with the flood victims, Rosmah and her delegation visited the Seberang Tayor Felda Multi-purpose Hall to present donations to more than 100 families affected by the floods in the district.
Each family was given personal hygiene items and RM1,000, RM500 coming from the National Security Council and RM500 the state government (for each of the families).
Besides Bakti, aid was also contributed by the Global Fund for the Wellbeing of Children and several private companies including Gamuda Berhad, Sunway Group, YTL Corporation Berhad, Yayasan Albukhary, Berjaya Corporation Berhad, Malaysia Resources Corporation Berhad, Permata and Giant Hypermarket.
Meanwhile, a recipient, Gayah Abdul Rahman, 65, said although the floods were over, the presence of the Prime Minister's wife and her delegation lightened up the flood victims.
"It doesn’t matter if the aid is given late or early, the important thing is they came down to visit, and we are very grateful.
Meanwhile, students and staff of the Sekolah Kebangsaan Rancangan Kemajuan Tanah (RKT) in Seberang Tayor near Air Putih here said Rosmah's visit was an event they would never forget.
Headmaster Mohd Rozi Hamid said the visit by Rosmah and wives of the country's leaders had boosted their morale to give the best service to their students.
He told Bernama that the school, which was inundated in two metres of water, re-opened for the 2015 schooling term after three gotong-royong sessions were held.
