An aftershock of 3.9-magnitude struck the Pidie Jaya Regency of Aceh Province in Indonesia's Sumatra island at 8am Thursday as the people were picking up the pieces following Wednesday's earthquake that left 102 dead, 252 injured and one missing.
The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said in a statement that it was monitoring the aftershocks as the search-and-rescue operation continued.
Reports indicate that hundreds of people in the regency traumatised by the quake were reluctant to return to their homes for fear of the aftershocks.
BNPB Head of the Data and Information Centre Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said preliminary data indicated that 102 people were killed in the 6.5-magnitude that struck on Wednesday.
"One person has been reported missing while 136 were badly injured and 116 had slight injuries," he said. - BERNAMA
