All eyes on Indonesia's new cabinet line-up

Newly sworn in Indonesian president Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is set to announce the much-awaited cabinet line-up at 4pm Indonesian time on Sunday.

Thirty-four new ministers are expected to be then officially inaugurated on Monday.

Earlier, Jokowi had the list of ministerial candidates submitted to its anti-graft agency Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) for assessment on their track records.

A former deputy of Jokowi’s transition team Andi Widjajanto, who is now assisting the president to form his cabinet, said Jokowi is also expected to have tea with the ministerial candidates at a garden in the Merdeka Palace complex, where the announcement is slated to take place.

“There will be a short briefing about Monday’s inauguration ceremony and Jokowi will ask the ministers to immediately prepare to work,” Andi was quoted in a report by The Jakarta Post.

“The president will immediately hold a cabinet meeting on Monday at noon after the inauguration ceremony,” he added.

Meanwhile, Indonesians are taking to Twitter in anticipation for the announcement where foreign media are also keenly watching the cabinet-formation process in the world's third largest democracy.

Jokowi, Indonesia's first leader from outside the political and military elite, was sworn in as president Monday.

US Secretary of State John Kerry, Australia's Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak were among those who attended the inauguration.
