ASEAN Foreign Ministers statement on Thailand-Cambodia border dispute
ASEAN backs efforts by its Chair to facilitate dialogue and restore peace based on unity and good neighborly relations. - FB/ASEAN
WE are deeply concerned over the escalation between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Kingdom of Cambodia which have resulted in increasing number of casualties on both sides and destruction of public properties, as well as displacement of a large number of people along the border areas.
We emphasise the need for both sides to exercise maximum restraint and undertake an immediate ceasefire, and refrain from taking any actions that may undermine it. We further urge both sides to return to the negotiating table and to resolve the dispute in accordance with international law and the peaceful settlement of disputes to restore peace and stability based on the spirit of ASEAN family, unity and good neighborliness.
We remain seized of the issue and support the efforts of the ASEAN Chair through its good offices in facilitating both sides to resume peaceful dialogue and end the fighting.
