BEIJING: China on Monday (May 11) said it will discuss issues concerning both sides and world peace with the United States ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to Beijing on Wednesday (May 13).

"President Xi Jinping will hold in-depth discussions with President Trump on major issues concerning Sino-U.S. relations and global peace and development," Guo Jiakun, the foreign ministry spokesperson, said in a regular press briefing.

Guo added that "China stands ready to work with the United States, upholding the spirit of equality, mutual respect, and mutual benefit, to expand cooperation and manage differences."

Trump and Xi are scheduled to meet in Beijing on May 14–15. A U.S. Air Force aircraft was seen touching down at Beijing Capital International Airport on Monday.

The summit, which will be the first visit to China by an American president in nearly a decade, was originally planned for late March but was delayed due to the ongoing conflict involving Iran. The meeting comes at a critical moment for global politics and the global economy.
