BEIJING: Beijing on Thursday urged the Dutch government to push Nexperia to send a delegation to China, as a standoff between the Netherlands-based chipmaker and its Chinese parent company threatens again to disrupt the global automotive supply chain.

AI Brief
  • Nexperia faces internal and legal disputes after Dutch government takeover, sparking tension with Chinese parent Wingtech.
  • Beijing halted exports, causing global chip shortages, as both sides eased measures but warn disruptions could return.
  • China presses the Netherlands to support negotiations and restore supply chain stability quickly.

Nexperia has been at odds with its Chinese parent Wingtech 600745.SS and Chinese operating subsidiaries since the Dutch government took control of the firm in September. Beijing responded by halting the exports of Nexperia's finished products, triggering chip shortages for global automakers.
Both governments relaxed their measures last month, but court fights and an internal battle continue over control of Nexperia, with Beijing and Wingtech both warning that disruptions could return if a long-term resolution is not found soon.
China has asked the Dutch government to implement the consensus they reached and to support Nexperia in sending representatives to China as soon as possible, He Yadong, a spokesperson for the Chinese commerce ministry, told a regular press briefing.
China has been actively supporting consultations between Nexperia and Wingtech to resolve disputes, He said, urging the Netherlands to create favourable conditions for negotiations within the company.
He's comments came a day after Wingtech said it had invited the court-appointed custodians of Nexperia for talks. Nexperia said it was aware of the invitation but had seen "no indications of any willingness to engage in meaningful discussions on the restoration of the supply chain".
