BEIJING: China's Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday urged the Netherlands to stop interfering in internal corporate affairs and work toward a constructive solution to the issue of the semiconductor manufacturer Nexperia.

AI Brief
  • The Dutch government seized Nexperia over concerns about its Chinese parent company, Wingtech.
  • China accuses the Netherlands of acting unilaterally and warns of global semiconductor supply chain disruption.
  • Talks are ongoing, but chip shortages are already affecting European industries, prompting calls for a quick resolution.

A spokesperson for the ministry made the remarks when asked to comment on recent issues related to Nexperia, an overseas subsidiary of Chinese company Wingtech.

The spokesperson said the Dutch side failing to take concrete actions to resolve the issue will inevitably deepen the adverse impact on the global semiconductor supply chain, an outcome neither the Chinese side nor the global industry wishes to see.

China hopes the Dutch side, with the goal of maintaining China-Netherlands and China-Europe economic and trade relations as well as the stability and security of industrial and supply chains, can act responsibly and work in the same direction with China, the spokesperson said.

China will firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises, and strive to maintain the stable and smooth operation of the global semiconductor supply chain, the spokesperson said.
