COVID-19 cases in Jakarta worrying, governor, deputy infected
Jakarta has become the province that has the highest number of positive cases in the republic at 136,861. - REUTERS
JAKARTA:The governor of Jakarta and his deputy have also been infected by COVID-19 as the increase in positive cases in the province has become more worrying.
Anies Baswedan in a statement today said the result of his swab test taken yesterday showed a positive result and that two days ago (Nov 29), his deputy Ahmad Riza Patria was also positive for the virus.
"After consultations and in line with the doctor's orders, I will self-isolate and follow the medical procedures set by the medical team,” he said.
Based on data published on the official Twitter site of Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency @BNPB yesterday, Jakarta has become the province that has the highest number of positive cases in the republic at 136,861.
Yesterday alone, 1,099 new cases were recorded in a 24 hour period while the death toll for the province stands at 2,660 people.
Yesterday, Indonesia recorded 4,617 new positive cases taking the tally in the republic to 538,883 cases.
