COVID-19: Malaysia reports 23,302 recoveries, 10,002 new cases

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia registered a total of 10,002 new COVID-19 cases within the last 24 hours.
This takes the total number of COVID-19 infections in the country to 4,256,469 cases since the pandemic started.
According to the Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, 9,904 of the new COVID-19 infections in the country were local transmissions while there were 98 imported cases.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) also recorded 23,302 recoveries, bringing the overall total to 4,041,723.
Dr Noor Hisham said there are 236 patients requiring treatment in intensive care units (ICU), with 140 of them on ventilators.
The occupancy of hospital beds now stands at 59.1%, while ICU and ventilator usage were currently at 53.8% and 33.1%, respectively.
The country also logged 28 deaths yesterday, including seven classified as brought-in-dead (BID), taking the cumulative number of deaths to 35,127.
According to MOH, 6,767 clusters were declared as having ended while 173 remain active.
Based on the ministry's COVIDNOW portal, from the 10,002 daily cases reported on April 4, a total of 5,495 cases are from Category 1, 4,418 from Category 2, 30 from Category 3, with 33 from Category 4 and 26 from Category 5.
