COVID-19: Malaysia reports slight dip in new cases with 1,918

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded a slight drop with a total of 1,918 new daily COVID-19 infections as of of midnight Monday (July 5).

Based on the data from the COVIDNOW portal, 1,916 of the new COVID-19 infections were local cases, while two were imported transmissions.

The cumulative total now stands at 4,575,809 since the pandemic started in March 2020.

Kuala Lumpur overtakes the lead in the highest number of cases registered with 662, followed by Selangor (482), Perak (153), Sabah (119), Negeri Sembilan (103).

Other states that reported a two-digit number were Johor (89), Penang (77), Kedah (48), Malacca (44), Putrajaya (38), Pahang (27), Sarawak (25), while Kelantan and Terengganu both reported 20 cases each.

There were six cases detected in Labuan and Perlis had five cases.

Currently active cases in the country stood at 29,382.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) recorded a total of 2,321 recoveries, taking the overall number of recovered and discharged patients to 4,510,643.

Meanwhile, 1,172 patients were hospitalised, with 44 of them admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU).

According to MOH, eight COVID-related deaths were reported yesterday with no cases of brought-in-dead, taking the overall total to 35,784.
