COVID-19: Thailand reports two new cases, zero deaths

Thailand has reported two new COVID-19 cases - both Thai men returned from abroad - and zero fatalities over the last 24 hours, taking its tally to 3,104 cases with 58 deaths, according to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

CCSA assistant spokeswoman Dr Panprapa Yongtrakul said the latest two were a 22-year-old student who returned from Russia and a 39-year-old factory worker who returned from Kuwait.

"The two asymptomatic patients are undergoing a 14-day quarantine at state quarantine facilities since their arrival in the kingdom.

"Thailand has reported no new cases of local transmission in 12 days," she said at the COVID-19 daily briefing here today.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) has suggested a limit on the number of visitors at tourist spots to prevent a surge in COVID-19 cases as the kingdom plans to further ease restrictions and measures in its fourth phase of relaxation, which is expected to start on June 15.

The director-general of DOH, Panpimol Wipulakorn said visitors to tourist spots must adopt the new normal such as by wearing face masks and observing social distancing.

For operators, she said they should provide enough hand sanitisers while toilets and bathrooms on beach fronts should be cleaned every two hours.

"Local authorities should issue guidelines and measures to limit the number of visitors to beaches to avoid overcrowding," she was quoted in Bangkok Post.
