Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi under home arrest
Egypt's ousted President Mohamed Morsi was reportedly under home arrest as of early Thursday, according to official newspaper Al-Ahram. China's Xinhua news agency, however, failed to confirm the information with leading Muslim Brotherhood members who fear arrest or problems. The Muslim-oriented president was sacked by the army on Wednesday. The generals put the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court, Adly Mansour, in charge of Egypt for a transitional period and suspended the constitution. The move came following Morsi's refusal to heed the army's 48-hour deadline to either step down or call for early elections, as demanded by the protesters unhappy with his policies for the past year since he took office. Mohamed Saad al-Katatni, leader of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party, and Rashad al-Bayoumi, deputy general guide of the group, were also arrested, Xinhua quoted the official news agency MENA as saying. The security forces are preparing for issuing arrest warrants for other 300 Brotherhood members, it added.
