Germany TV airs Aidilfitri prayers for the first time

Germany television station today broadcasted Aidilfitri prayers for the first time in the history of the country.

The ceremony was broadcast live from Penzberg mosque located near the town of Munich through public television channels and radio broadcaster Bayerischen Rundfunk.

The mosque’s preacher, Benjamin Idriz stated that the move can be considered as a historic for Muslim community in Germany.

The broadcast is part of two-hour coverage on the holiday celebrated by Muslims which features Aidilfitri sermon, narration of al-Quran, Islamic chanting and speeches by Christian Catholic and Protestant priests.

Benjamin led nearly 1,000 visitors who came for the prayers which held at 4:45 am local time.

According to 43-year-old preacher, the emergence of extremists such as IS militant has added psychological pressure on Muslims in Germany.

"Broadcasting of Aidilfitri program can help Muslims feel more accepted and became part of the German," said Benjamin.

Two weeks ago, Chancellor Angela Merkel representing the government attended an Iftar event. At the event, she states that Islam ‘is a part of Germany’.
