Ghana to deploy 20,000 officers for Dec polls

Ghana will deploy 20,000 security personnel nationwide during and after the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in December, Xinhua news agency cited local press reports on Monday.
More than 10,000 security personnel have received trained in election security maintenance, including rapid deployment mission to deal with crowd and riot control during the elections.
The officers were trained in the use of fire arms, operational field deployment and tactical intervention, according to Inspector General of Police Paul Tawiah Quaye.
The various departments under the Ghana Police Service are also providing in-service training.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Matthew Appiah-Agyei has appealed to the public to conduct themselves in an orderly manner during the elections.
