SENIOR Hamas official Ghazi Hamad on Tuesday accused Israel of repeatedly violating the ceasefire deal in Gaza and killing around 400 Palestinians since the truce.

AI Brief
  • Hamas claims Israel committed 800 violations since the October 10 ceasefire, killing about 400 Palestinians, mostly civilians.
  • Aid and fuel shortages, severe weather, and flooding have created a dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
  • Hamas urges international intervention to stop violations and prevent catastrophe.

The Hamas leader said that Israel had committed over 800 violations, including killings, executions, firing on civilians, bombings and assassinations since the ceasefire agreement came into force on October 10.

Hamad also accused the Israeli forces of repeatedly crossing the "yellow line," which marks the zone from which Israeli troops have not withdrawn in the Palestinian enclave as part of the ceasefire arrangements.

He said about 400 Palestinians had been killed due to the truce violations, with more than 95 percent of them being civilians.

The Israeli side had continuously obstructed the entry of aid supplies into the Gaza Strip since the cease-fire agreement took effect. In addition, the Israeli military was still withholding information regarding Palestinian detainees and missing persons, Hamad said.

He called on the mediating parties and relevant international institutions to take immediate and concrete measures to prevent the Israeli military from continuing to violate the cease-fire agreement and to maintain stability in Gaza.

Israel should bear full responsibility for all actions that have violated and undermined the peace agreement, said Hamad.

On the same day, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem said in a statement that the combination of severe weather and the ongoing blockade has led to the flooding of tents and shelters in the Gaza Strip, with children dying from the cold, creating a severe humanitarian crisis in the region.

As the Israeli military has allowed less than 10 percent of the agreed-upon fuel supplies into Gaza, coupled with a critical shortage of heating equipment, the sudden drop in temperatures in Gaza has made living conditions even more difficult for the people, Qassem said.

If the international community does not intervene promptly, Gaza will face an inevitable catastrophe, the spokesperson added.
